dong shijie, president of wuhan polytechnic university, gave a message to freshmen titled "sharpen your ambitions and smooth the bumpy road": learning is not a sprint, but a marathon. when students face profound academic problems, fierce competition pressure, and confusion and hesitation in life, only by constantly undergoing hardships can they pass through the fog, reach the other side of their ideals, and shine brightly.

professor chen huiling from the school of economics of the university spoke as a representative of the teachers. she hoped that the freshmen would meet every challenge, overcome every difficulty, create every possibility with full enthusiasm and high morale, and strive to become pillars of society with patriotism, international vision, innovative spirit and practical ability.
