the 2024inclusion bund conference will officially open in shanghai this thursday. on september 3, the bund conference organizing committee announced the final results of the bund conference science and technology intelligence innovation competition.
under the guidance of the shanghai science and technology commission, the 2024 bund summit will add the "science and technology intelligent innovation competition" (hereinafter referred to as the ai innovation competition) for the first time, including the "afac2024 financial intelligent innovation competition" (hereinafter referred to as the afac competition) and the "global deepfake attack and defense challenge" (hereinafter referred to as the deepfake competition).
after three months of fierce competition, the results of the two major competitions were officially released on september 3. among them, a total of 6 outstanding teams stood out in the afac competition, winning the first prize in the challenge group, the enterprise group and the second prize in the start-up group (the first prize in the start-up group was vacant).
in the deepfake competition, a team from the university of macau and individual contestant tang yongwei won the championship in both the picture and audio and video tracks respectively.
the organizer of the bund conference revealed that the two competitions attracted more than 7,000 teams and nearly 10,000 contestants from more than 20 countries and regions, including teams from world-class universities such as peking university, fudan university, stanford, mit, and the national university of singapore, as well as teams from well-known companies such as microsoft, google, meituan, and xiaohongshu, and scientific research institutions such as the institute of automation of the chinese academy of sciences, microsoft research asia, and the agency for science, technology and research of singapore.
"hosting such an international event during the bund conference can be said to be 'killing two birds with one stone'. because through the event, we can build a scientific and technological innovation stage for innovators, related industries and enterprises, and the entire city, create an atmosphere of scientific and technological innovation, strengthen the exchange of talents at home and abroad, and make the influence of the bund conference not only last for a few days, but continue to serve shanghai's construction of a global scientific and technological innovation center." xiao yanghua, professor at the school of computer science and technology of fudan university, director of the shanghai key laboratory of data science, and one of the question setters of the afac2024 event, said.

the champion of the deepfake competition is a joint team composed of scholars from china, hong kong and macau. wu haiwei, a postdoctoral fellow from the city university of hong kong, participated in the image track with his juniors from the state key laboratory of internet of things for smart cities at the university of macau. the recognition rate of deepfakes in multiple types and scenes reached 97.038%.
individual contestant tang yongwei won the championship in the deepfake attack and defense video track. he studied business and taught himself computer expertise, and has won many awards in multiple ai competitions. he also won the second prize in the afac financial instrument learning competition, becoming a veritable "double champion". with the development of artificial intelligence, the forgery of sound can usually achieve a fake-real effect. the competition requires contestants to use algorithms to identify whether the audio has been forged. after the competition questions came out, tang yongwei established several different models based on data analysis and business understanding to conduct algorithm attack and defense tests.
"innovation competitions are helpful to contestants at different stages." ma qianli, an afac contestant and algorithm engineer at shopee, said, "when applying for a job, innovation and practical ability are important points to differentiate yourself from your competitors. the competition has become a testament to this innovative practical ability, and the experience of participating in the competition has given me a lot of help in the interview."
"using competition to promote innovation" not only provides different types of talents with a stage to showcase their talents, but also improves the contestants' ability to use technology to solve real problems in actual application scenarios through down-to-earth competition questions, and cultivates interdisciplinary talents.
over one million competition data sets, covering hot competition topics in the industry
build a bridge between theory and industrial application
in line with the original intention of "technology for good", the setting of the competition not only emphasizes the forward-looking nature of technology, but also highlights the applicability of technology.
the afac competition has three groups: challenge group, startup group, and enterprise group. the challenge group is for developers. the contestants will solve business scenario problems based on the real data in the field of financial technology provided by the competition. the startup group is for entrepreneurial teams or seed companies, and they will develop sample applications and design business plans for scenarios such as finance, technology, and life. the enterprise group is for small and medium-sized enterprises in the financial technology industry. the contestants will focus on emerging directions in the financial technology industry and submit new technologies and new product landing projects that are bright and innovative. the results of the competition cover multiple hot areas such as medical health, financial technology, and intelligent manufacturing, reflecting the wide application potential of ai technology, allowing ai to go beyond "chat" (chat) and enter the actual application of "act" (service).
the deepfake attack and defense competition is chaired by wang yaonan, an academician of the chinese academy of engineering, and ant digital zoloz and dimensity lab are the contestants. the contest questions include two mainstream deepfake research directions: images and audio and video. it is one of the most authoritative competitions in the field of cv (computer vision). the competition data set consists of public data and forged data. among them, the forged image data covers more than 50 generation methods in real scenes, and the forged audio and video include more than 100 combined attack methods. the total amount of training data sets opened by the organizing committee exceeds 1 million.
ant financial ceo zhao wenbiao said that deepfake has developed into a global technical challenge, and this competition is an excellent exchange opportunity for researchers of deepfake technology. ant financial zoloz has been researching deepfake attack and defense technology since 2019, and has served financial, telecommunications, government and other institutions in dozens of countries and regions. this time, we will incorporate the attack and defense experience accumulated in commercial practice into the competition design and competition question data set, form a comrade-in-arms relationship with peers, and jointly improve the security defense level of the entire industry. this is also the original intention of hosting the competition.
"this competition provides technical researchers with an opportunity to conduct exercises in a highly simulated real industrial environment, which will help integrate industry, academia and research and cultivate responsible practical talents." said zhou tianyi, deputy director of the frontier artificial intelligence center of the agency for science, technology and research, co-organizer of the competition.
