taiwan's economic chief, kuo chih-hui, has refuted criticism of the island by republican presidential candidate donald trump and denied that taiwan has snatched away the u.s. chip industry.

"of course, taiwan has not taken the chip industry away from the united states. the chips we produce are commissioned by american companies, and these companies still have the highest gross profit margins," said guo zhihui. "trump may have some misunderstandings about such issues, and we will clarify this."

trump shocked taiwan with remarks in july in which he criticized the island's chip industry, sparking concerns that if trump succeeds president biden, he will treat taiwan from a different commercial and trade perspective.

"taiwan took our chip business," trump said at the time. "i mean, how stupid are we? they took all our chip business. they're very rich."

kuo also said taiwan plans to build a business park in kyushu, japan, to help taiwanese companies operating there.

"the park will adopt a one-stop service model similar to taiwan's science and technology parks," said guo zhihui. "since each county offers different conditions, we will set up a new company to provide services to help taiwanese companies quickly settle in japan."
