cctv reporter li jingjing:the pool track behind me was splashing with water, and athletes from all over the world were like flying fish leaping in the water, cutting through the waves and chasing each other. but i know that every stroke or kick is a challenge to surpass their own limits for them with physical disabilities.
new recruit zhu hui: challenge 6 events
gain experience through practice
zhu hui, a 15-year-old one-armed girl who loves to smile, is the youngest athlete in the chinese sports delegation. this is her first time participating in the paralympics. born in 2008, she was once one of the "olympic babies." it took zhu hui only four or five years to go from swimming practice to participating in the paralympics. last year, she also won the silver medal in the 200-meter individual medley at the world championships. her strength should not be underestimated. zhu hui will participate in multiple swimming events in this paralympics.
zhu hui, a swimmer from the chinese paralympic delegation:there are 6 events, 400m freestyle, 200m medley, 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 50m freestyle. you can practice more and accumulate more competition experience. after each training session, i will use some spare time to do more waist, abdomen, core, leg strength, etc.
zhu hui, a swimmer from the chinese paralympic delegation:swimming makes me cheerful, confident and independent. before i started swimming, i was a little dependent on others. after i started swimming, i can do many things by myself and do everything as if i were a healthy person.
veteran jia hongguang:
use sports to encourage more people with disabilities to embrace the world
paralympic newcomers are striving to be the best, and veterans are not far behind. jia hongguang, 36, is a male s6 athlete who will challenge five individual swimming events at the paris paralympics. since his debut at the 2012 london paralympics, he has won medals at many paralympic games.
jia hongguang, a swimmer from the chinese sports delegation at the paris paralympics:i am 36 years old this year. i think this may be my last paralympic games and i hope it will be a perfect ending.
jia hongguang told reporters that when he was a child, he lost his left arm and half of his right arm in an accident, and he once fell into depression. fortunately, when he was 21 years old, he started to get involved in disabled swimming. with the help of the disabled persons' federation and his coach, he has come a long way. now he is not only optimistic and cheerful, but also a staff member of the local disabled persons' federation. in jia hongguang's view, medals are not the most important thing. the key is to encourage and help more disabled people to go out of their homes, integrate into society, and pursue themselves.
jia hongguang, a swimmer from the chinese sports delegation at the paris paralympics:sports changed my life. after i got involved in sports, i met my wife and now have a son and a daughter. there are nearly 85 million disabled brothers and sisters in our country. i hope that sports can help them, help them take that step out of their homes and get in touch with more new things.
