it home reported on august 31 that anandtech, founded in 1997, is a website that has long focused on information related to the pc hardware industry, providing news reports and hardware reviews of products such as processors, motherboards, and graphics cards. on august 30, beijing time, the website announced that it would stop updating content.

according to the site's current editor-in-chief ryan smith, anandtech has been reporting on the "vast and wild" field of computer hardware for more than 27 years, and august 30 is the last day the site will publish content.it home attaches part of the announcement released by ryan smith as follows:

a lot has changed over the past quarter century—nvidia hadn’t even coined the term “gpu” in 1997—and we’ve been fortunate to watch the world of hardware evolve over that time.

we've gone from boxy desktops and laptops (which today we would classify as portable desktops) to pocket computers (even the cheapest budget devices would have left the fastest pcs of 1997 in the dust).

…few things last forever, and the market for tech news is not what it once was, and it never will be. so it’s time for anandtech to wrap up its work and let the next generation of tech journalists take their place in the zeitgeist.

…but i’m happy to report that the site itself isn’t going away for now. our publisher, future plc, will maintain the anandtech site and its many articles indefinitely. that way, all the content we’ve created over the years can continue to be accessible and referenced. even if no new articles are added to the collection, i anticipate that much of the content we’ve written over the past few decades will remain relevant and accessible for years to come.
