last september, news about tesla's seven-seat model y first emerged. at the time, it was reported that the new car was internally codenamed juniper and was scheduled to be officially released in the first half of 2024, and was expected to be on the market before the end of the same year. the above report said that the weight of the modified seven-seat model y would increase by 45 kg after adding the third row of seats, and the maximum load weight would increase by an additional 70 kg. at present, the seven-seat version of the model y produced in china has completed relevant certification in europe.

public data shows that in march 2019, when tesla released the model y, it demonstrated its flexible space utilization of seven seats. however, it was not until 2021 that the us market officially began to offer an additional seven-seat option, and currently only the four-wheel drive dual-motor model y long-range version supports the option, and the optional seven-seat option requires an additional payment of us$2,000.

the reporter observed that in january this year, tesla adjusted the price of the seven-seat version of model y in the us market, increasing it by $500, and then adjusted it back to the original price in april. it is also worth noting that last year the price of the seven-seat option of this model was once raised to $4,000.

it has been reported that the seven-seater version of model y provides more options for consumers who need extra space, but based on user feedback, the third-row seats are more suitable for children or passengers with a height of no more than 1.7 meters, and the space is relatively compact.

in the view of some industry insiders, the emergence of rumors about the seven-seat version of model y is related to tesla's urgent need to boost its performance.tesla has faced significant pressure on its automotive business since entering 2024. according to tesla's second quarter 2024 financial report, the company's core automotive business revenue reached us$19.878 billion, a 7% decrease from the same period last year.
