previously, lawyers guo rui and li songmei of beijing jingshi (shanghai) law firm issued a statement, accepting the family's commission to serve as defense lawyers in the case of li peixia, former party secretary of shangfang township, wannian county, jiangxi province, who was suspected of committing duty-related crimes.

in june this year, li peixia was investigated. according to official reports, she was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, took the initiative to confess her problems to the organization, and accepted the disciplinary review and supervision investigation of the wannian county commission for discipline inspection and supervision.

on july 25, li peixia's father li changliu reported wannian county party secretary mao qi on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female subordinate. li changliu said that in may this year, li peixia had an argument with mao qi and claimed that she would report mao qi to the provincial commission for discipline inspection and supervision. three days later, li peixia was taken away and detained by the wannian county commission for discipline inspection and supervision.

li changliu said that before li peixia was taken away, she left a usb flash drive to her family, telling them that the usb flash drive could save her life. li changliu also released three recordings.

after the incident fermented, the authorities intervened in the investigation. on august 18, the joint investigation team of the shangrao municipal party committee issued a report on li peixia's serious violations of discipline and law. the report stated that li peixia was suspected of bribery. after approval according to procedures, li peixia was expelled from the party and dismissed from public office, and her suspected crimes were transferred to the procuratorate for review and prosecution in accordance with the law. it was found that mao qi had used his power to influence and have an improper sexual relationship with li peixia, and li peixia violated the living discipline for the purpose of job adjustment and promotion. the provincial commission for discipline inspection and supervision is investigating mao qi's suspected violations of discipline and law.

on august 15, before the official announcement, li peixia's family had appointed guo rui and li songmei as li peixia's defense lawyers. however, 13 days after the lawyer team intervened in the case, on august 28, lawyer guo rui publicly stated that the meeting was blocked and the complaint was fruitless, and the local authorities had arranged for "government-appointed lawyers" to take over.

lawyer guo rui said that on august 21, two defense lawyers met with li peixia in shangrao city detention center. the meeting lasted only 10 minutes and was interrupted several times.

"when li peixia was about to sign the power of attorney, three staff members stood next to her. finally, li peixia said that she had applied to the investigation team to contact her family and would sign after that." lawyer guo rui said that the lawyer then submitted a letter of complaint to the shangrao city procuratorate, complaining that the shangrao city detention center had violated the lawyer's professional rights.

lawyer guo rui said that on august 28, the two defense lawyers rushed to shangrao city detention center again and learned that the local government had arranged for a "government-appointed lawyer" named wang to meet with li peixia, and that this "government-appointed lawyer" was the legal adviser of the local government. "our lawyer team expressed serious protest against the local case handling agency's serious violation of the lawyers' professional rights and the legal rights of detainees, and strongly demanded an investigation into the source of the power of attorney held by the government-appointed lawyer."

on the evening of the 28th, li peixia's father li changliu posted an article on the social platform titled "ten questions about li peixia's government-appointed lawyer", asking questions such as how lawyer wang moumou obtained li peixia's power of attorney, who paid the lawyer's fees, how he became the third lawyer, whether he had ever met li peixia, and who arranged him.

later, we confirmed with the family members, who said they knew nothing about the power of attorney and had not signed any contract. they were all very surprised. so, who passed on li peixia's power of attorney? how was it passed? it was obviously illegal.

the family members sent a message to lawyer wang: "hello, lawyer wang, i am a family member of li peixia. on behalf of all family members, i now ask you to immediately stop representing li peixia's case. your actions have seriously violated the rights of li peixia and our family members!"

after we arrived, the detention center staff turned on the law enforcement recorder and pointed it at us. the core of their reply was that we could meet with li peixia but they had to send someone to be present. we said that this was illegal and firmly refused, and told them that the detention center's arrangement for lawyer wang to meet with li peixia yesterday afternoon was also illegal.

we asked them many times whether we, the lawyers appointed by the family and who still have the right to defend according to the law, could meet with li peixia, but they did not answer. so we left the detention center.
