according to reuters, a canadian government official said on wednesday that tesla had approached ottawa to lower import tariffs on chinese-made cars before canada announced on monday that it would impose a 100% tariff on electric vehicles made in china.

tesla approached canada before the official tariff decision was announced, asking for rates similar to those it received in the european union, which decided to impose an additional 9% tariff on tesla vehicles made in china, people familiar with the matter said.
