"guizhou is very beautiful. what surprised us is that guizhou has also become a national role model in data industry and data economy. not only has it built the first national big data comprehensive experimental zone, but its computing power has also reached 40eflops, or 400 billion, which surprised us very much." at the 2024 china international big data industry expo, xue qikun, winner of the national highest science and technology award, academician of the chinese academy of sciences, president of southern university of science and technology, and professor of tsinghua university, praised guizhou's big data.
he mentioned that in the era of big data, more powerful computing power is needed and higher data storage density is required. at the same time, with the continuous growth of computing power and density, energy consumption must also be lowered to ensure the development of the data industry.
to this end, from the perspective of a physicist, he used examples such as middle school mathematics knowledge and computing power development to talk about the development of some key technologies in the future big data era, focusing on computing power, from traditional computing to quantum computing, and what contributions physicists and physics workers should make.
with the development of the digital economy, the requirements for computing power are getting higher and higher. whether technology can sustain the development of the digital economy has now become an issue of fierce competition.
"because quantum computers still have many major technical issues at the basic level, including scientific problems that need to be solved, many people estimate that it will take 10 to 20 years. we don't have a clear answer, but this is a very important strategic technology. we need to promote and develop quantum computing from three aspects: education, science and technology, and talent," said xue qikun.
perhaps if it is successfully developed one day, it will provide a new approach to the ultra-high computing power needed today and solve the computing power requirements in the big data era.
"so this expo provides a very good platform to connect basic industries, society and people," said xue qikun.
