Reference News reported on August 26According to a report on the website of the Spanish newspaper El Economista on August 24, nearly 100 new banknotes were issued worldwide in 2023, but only 15 were shortlisted for the "Best Banknote of the Year" by the International Banknote Society for their innovation. The society comprehensively considered many aspects of the banknotes, including color, design, texture and tone contrast, originality, and anti-counterfeiting features and measures.
The report said that the 2-dollar note issued by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank won the title of "Best Banknote of 2023". The note was favored by members of the International Banknote Society for its "rich colors, pleasing design, and combination of sports and environmental themes".
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank note stood out from notes from Argentina, South Africa, Jamaica, Jordan, Peru and Egypt, among others.
The obverse of the note uses yellow, red, blue and purple and features local cricket stars and the bank's 40th anniversary logo.
The back features a marine series of patterns such as fish, corals and turtles, as well as a small map of the island countries covered by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines).
According to the International Banknote Society website, this winning banknote is called the "Oscar-winning banknote" and "reflects a hopeful and secure future through a vibrant and joyful design that incorporates sports and environmental elements.
