According to Fast Technology on August 28, Huawei HarmonyOS official Weibo announced that recruitment for the HarmonyOS NEXT Beta version has started.

The number of models has increased significantly this time, supporting 16 devices including HUAWEI Pura 70, Mate 60, Mate X5, Pocket 2, MatePad Pro 13.2-inch, MatePad Pro 11-inch 2024, FreeBuds Pro 3, etc.

According to the recruitment page, the registration period for this test is from August 26 to September 13 at 15:00, and the review period is from August 30 to September 24. It is expected that the review will be completed within 3-10 working days after registration.

Users need to register first and pass the questions before they can apply. A real-name account has three chances, and the passing score is 80 points.

The system is still in the early testing stage and will adopt the new system architecture of HarmonyOS. After the upgrade, some applications may be incompatible and some data may not be inherited and saved.

Huawei reminds users to back up their device data via backup devices, PC backup, cloud backup, etc. before updating.

HarmonyOS NEXT is commonly known as "pure-blooded Hongmeng". Its base is fully self-developed, and it has removed the traditional Linux kernel and AOSP Android open source project codes. It only supports the Hongmeng kernel and Hongmeng system applications.

This also means that in the future, Hongmeng and Android applications will no longer be compatible, and will completely draw a line between themselves and Android.

According to the timeline previously announced by Huawei, HarmonyOS NEXT will release its official version in the fourth quarter, when models such as the Pura 70 and Mate 60 series will be able to be adapted in the first wave.
