On August 26, Shijingshan District held a press conference on the WTT China Grand Slam. Yang Haibin, deputy director of the Beijing Sports Bureau, introduced at the meeting that the WTT China Grand Slam will be grandly opened in Shijingshan Shougang Park in September 2024. This event is the first time that Beijing has hosted a world-class table tennis event again after the 26th World Table Tennis Championships in 1961, 63 years later.
Over the years, Beijing has continuously sent many table tennis champions to the national team. Table tennis has a unique historical sentiment and a broad mass base in Beijing. As of the end of last year, the city had more than 6,500 public table tennis courts, and dozens of table tennis events held every year attracted hundreds of thousands of participants. The WTT Grand Slam held in Beijing will surely ignite the citizens' passion for the national ball again.
WTT and other international top sports events are not only a grand event of sports competition, but also an important event to promote local economic development, enhance the city's image, and enhance international exchanges and cooperation. In the second half of the year, the city will also host a number of international top events such as the Beijing Marathon, China Open, Short Track Speed Skating World Cup, Snowboard and Freestyle Skiing Big Jumping World Cup, etc. By continuously optimizing the quality of "event services", promoting the quality upgrade of "event economy", and transforming the "flow" of events into "incremental" consumption, it will increase the momentum of the capital's economic development, empower Beijing's urban vitality, and gather strength for the international exchange center.
As the world's only dual Olympic city, Beijing will make full use of the advantages of the dual Olympic venue cluster and the rich experience in the operation and support of large-scale events, continuously expand the supply of events, optimize the layout of events, improve the quality of events, and build a high-quality "Beijing Dual Olympic International Event City", creating a "1 Ring + 4 Districts + N Scenes" event pattern. "1 Ring" refers to focusing on the areas around the Fourth Ring Road to the Fifth Ring Road to create a city sports vitality ring; "4 Districts" refers to radiating and extending from the vitality ring to all sides, creating a wonderful event gathering area in the north, a fashionable sports gathering area in the west, a charming fitness gathering area in the south, and a sports and leisure gathering area in the east; "N Scenes" refers to creating specific spaces, association work, and new scenes with characteristics of each district. Through the guidance of events, we will promote the balanced and coordinated development of mass sports, youth sports, and sports industries, and promote Beijing's sports cause to continuously take new steps and achieve new achievements.
