Reports say "Chief Mouser" Larry is 17 years old and is believed to be in the final years of his life, which exceeds the average lifespan of a tabby cat.

British government sources reportedly told The Times that officials have drafted a press release and images "in preparation for the sad day when it leaves".

One source said Larry is "doing fine" at the moment, while another said, "We feel like this is something that needs to be handled carefully."

Larry has become a popular fixture at Downing Street, often appearing outside Number 10 at major political events and news broadcasts.
