In response to the incident in which Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.'s health products containing red yeast rice caused damage to consumers' health, the Osaka City Government conducted an on-site inspection of the company's red yeast rice raw material production factory in Yodogawa District, Osaka City, in accordance with the Food Sanitation Law on August 27, local time. This is the third time that Osaka City has entered Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.'s Osaka factory for an on-site inspection.
It is reported that the factory was closed in December last year.
It was reported that at around 10 o'clock that day, six staff members from the Osaka Municipal Government entered the factory and checked relevant production records.
In previous investigations, penicillic acid, which is associated with kidney disease, was detected in the factory's culture room and other places. In this investigation, it is expected that the time and route of contamination of raw materials will be estimated.
Information reported by Kobayashi Pharmaceutical to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare shows that "penicillic acid" was detected in the red yeast rice produced by the Osaka factory in September last year, which may be the component that caused the relevant problems. The head of Kobayashi Pharmaceutical's publicity department said that it will cooperate with relevant departments to conduct investigations. (Reporter Li Weibing)
