IT Home reported on August 27 that a fire broke out at the factory of American electric car manufacturer Rivian in Norman, Illinois last weekend, causing damage to several electric vehicles. No injuries have been reported so far.

Matt Swaney, a spokesman for the Norman Fire Department, told The Verge that a report of a fire at the Rivian factory was received at 9:43 p.m. local time on Saturday. Rivian is now investigating the nature of the fire with the company's insurance company, and Norman Fire Department officials will provide support when needed.

Swaney added: "This is a very complex investigation, so we cannot yet determine when the cause of the fire will be determined. The assembly plant itself was not affected by this incident, and no firefighters or Rivian personnel were injured."

Witnesses said they could see flames and smoke rising from the factory site in the distance. The factory itself was not damaged as the fire was contained to the parking lot.

IT Home noted that Rivian spokesman Peebles Squire said in a statement: "We are investigating the cause of a fire that occurred late Saturday night. The fire damaged several vehicles in our Norman facility parking lot.The factory itself was not affected, no one was injured and we are unable to provide further details at this time.”
