Original title: The first international standard for passenger car exterior protection led by China is released

Our reporter Kong Dechen recently learned from the State Administration for Market Regulation that the international standard "Road Vehicles - Passenger Car Exterior Protection" revised by China has been officially released. This is the first ISO international standard in the field of automotive passive safety completed by China.

Safety is the eternal theme of automobile development and an important research direction of the International Organization for Standardization. In December 2021, combining the advantages of automobile safety technology and industrial development, China proposed to revise the international standard proposal for passenger car exterior protection (ISO 2958:1973) in the International Organization for Standardization Road Vehicle Technical Committee (ISO/TC22), and the project was officially launched on February 18, 2022. The project is led by Chinese experts. During the project, Chinese experts initiated the establishment of the ISO/TC22/WG18 Automobile Exterior Protection Working Group and served as convener. Experts from Germany, France, Malaysia and other countries jointly participated in the research and formulation of the standard.

It is reported that ISO 2958∶2024, on the basis of improving the test methods for automobile exterior protection, further adds technical requirements for the charging system and power system of hybrid and pure electric vehicles, and proposes low-speed vehicle integrity solutions such as intelligent sensors and lighting components, thus forming a complete set of technical requirements and test methods for low-speed collision safety protection of automobiles. This standard is applicable to passenger cars of various power forms equipped with new components such as cameras and radars and special component functions, which will help promote the advancement of global automobile safety technology and the rapid development of the industry.
