Just now, the list of Science Exploration Awards was released!

There are 49 winners this time, including 7 female winners, accounting for 14% of the total number of winners.

Especially in the field of mathematical physics, half of the six winners are from the field, including Shan Peng from Tsinghua University's Qiu Chengtong Mathematical Sciences Center, Zhou Shuyun from the Department of Physics, and Yang Xiaofei from the School of Physics of Peking University.

This year, six winners are under the age of 35, including Cao Yunlong from the Center for Frontier Innovation in Biomedicine at Peking University, who was selected as one of the top ten figures in Nature in 2022. There is also Feng Jiandong from Zhejiang University, who is in the frontier interdisciplinary field. The single-molecule protein sequencing he is targeting is called a "world problem."

They will receive a total of 3 million yuan in funding for five consecutive years.

To date, there have been 297 winners of the Science Exploration Award in its six years of existence.

So let’s focus on the information electronics field and see who the winners are.

Information electronics field

  • Fang Lu: Exploring the theory and key technologies of optical computing and light field intelligent imaging

She is a professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University. At the age of 14, she was admitted to the Junior Class of the University of Science and Technology of China, and was subsequently admitted to the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for a master's and doctoral degree.

Her current research area is in the intersection of computational optics. Last year, her research group proposed the "DuAl-Neuron opTical-artificial lEarning (DANTE)" for large-scale optoelectronic intelligent computing.

DANTE has broken through the shackles of complex physical modeling and difficult parameter optimization of large-scale optoelectronic neural networks, increasing the network scale by one to two orders of magnitude and the training and learning speed by two orders of magnitude.

  • Shen Chao: Exploring AI security attack and defense based on reverse thinking

Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University, affiliated with the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Networks and Network Security of the Ministry of Education and the Engineering Center of Information-Physical Fusion Systems of the Ministry of Education.

Mainly engaged in research on intelligent system security and control, artificial intelligence trustworthiness and security, and intelligent software and hardware testing.

  • Wang Meng: Exploring auxiliary diagnosis and intervention of psychological disorders based on multimodal interaction

Professor at Hefei University of Technology, currently mainly engaged in research in the fields of artificial intelligence, pattern recognition and multimedia information processing.

He received his bachelor's and doctoral degrees from the University of Science and Technology of China, and then worked in Microsoft Research Asia and the National University of Singapore from July 2008 to August 2011.

  • Zhang Xiuyin: Exploring the digital design theory and AI design method of millimeter wave synaesthesia fusion chip

Zhang Xiuyin is a professor, doctoral supervisor, and vice dean of the School of Electronics and Information at South China University of Technology. He is also an IET Fellow and a member of the China Institute of Communications.

The research areas are intelligent sensing and wireless communications, including intelligent wireless sensing, 5G/6G mobile communication RF chips, antennas, algorithms and systems.

He graduated from Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications with a bachelor's degree, and then completed his master's and doctoral research at South China University of Technology and City University of Hong Kong.

  • Zhou Peng: Exploring super-node performance transistors and sub-1 nanosecond non-volatile memory

Zhou Peng, a professor at the School of Microelectronics at Fudan University, is currently engaged in research on new two-dimensional layered semiconductor electronic devices and their properties, and next-generation CMOS-compatible non-volatile memory.

He has used new materials to invent a new storage technology that combines high speed and non-volatility, realized high-area-efficiency single-transistor logic in-situ storage technology, and obtained high-performance storage devices, high-efficiency algorithms and verification chips.

A total of 297 winners

Every year, the "Science Exploration Award" evaluation committee will select no more than 50 young scientific and technological workers, aged no more than 45, working in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao.

The research areas include basic science and cutting-edge technology.

Starting from 2022, the "Science Exploration Award" will add the field of medical science, with a total of 10 major fields, including mathematics and physics, new chemical materials, astronomy and geology, life sciences, medical sciences, information electronics, energy and environment, advanced manufacturing, transportation and construction, and cutting-edge intersections.

On the list of winners, 49 winners come from 29 institutions, including scientists from the University of Hong Kong, Sichuan University, Tongji University, Southeast University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Hohai University, Hefei University of Technology, etc., and 10 of them have winners for the first time.
