Xinhua News Agency: Recently, we have noticed that many African media and scholars are paying attention to China-Africa poverty reduction cooperation. They believe that China-Africa cooperation has brought new hope for Africa to achieve food self-sufficiency, eliminate poverty and improve people's livelihood. What is your comment? How do you evaluate the importance of China-Africa cooperation to poverty reduction in Africa?
Lin Jian: Poverty eradication is the common mission of mankind and the common wish of the African people. From the "Ten Cooperation Plans" to the "Nine Projects", poverty reduction has always been an important part of China-Africa cooperation. Over the years, we have adhered to the concept of sincerity, affinity and good faith and the correct concept of justice and interests, actively implemented the "China-Africa Cooperation Framework between China and the African Union", carried out exchanges and cooperation on poverty reduction under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and achieved remarkable results.
In the "Poverty Reduction and Agricultural Benefit Project", China has implemented 47 poverty reduction and agricultural projects, trained nearly 9,000 agricultural talents, promoted more than 300 advanced and applicable technologies, and benefited more than 1 million small farmers in Africa. China's Juncao technology has increased the income of hundreds of thousands of local people. China's hybrid rice has promoted the rice production of many African countries from an average of 2 tons per hectare to 7.5 tons. The rice poverty reduction demonstration village established by Chinese experts has made "everyone has food and everyone has savings" a reality. The agricultural cooperation parks and agricultural product processing plants established by Chinese companies have greatly increased the added value of local agricultural products. The "green channel" for African agricultural products to be exported to China established by China has allowed a large number of high-quality African agricultural products to enter China. In the "Hundred Enterprises and Thousands of Villages" project, Chinese enterprises have implemented 320 social responsibility projects in Africa, benefiting more than 10,000 villages and communities. We have also held a number of poverty reduction exchange and training courses for African grassroots cadres to share poverty reduction experiences.
China-Africa cooperation has also actively helped the industrialization process of the African continent and enhanced the local economic self-development capabilities. Cooperation parks in which China has participated in investment, such as the Nigeria Lekki Free Trade Zone and the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, have greatly promoted African countries' foreign investment and helped "Made in Africa" to go global through industrial clusters. We have built 17 Luban workshops in 15 African countries, promoting employment for local people.
China has always been a strong promoter of Africa's exploration of a new path for modernization and development, and an important contributor to opening up a new path for poverty reduction. We are willing to take the upcoming 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit as an opportunity to continue to work with Africa to advance the poverty reduction process and create a better future for the African people.
