Starting from September 1, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's document "Interim Regulations on Radio Management of Wireless Charging (Power Transmission) Equipment" will come into effect. One of the most striking changes in the new regulations is that the operating frequency range of mobile and portable wireless charging equipment has been reduced to prevent conflicts with aviation radio navigation services. The Qi2 and Magsafe wireless charging protocols used by Apple's 15W fast charging will not be within the operating frequency range of the new regulations. Currently, Apple's official website "Wireless Charging Equipment Statement" only shows a power of 7.5W.

The iPhone, which originally did not have an advantage in wireless charging speed, will probably face an even more difficult situation.

Magesafe is a magnetic wireless charging technology introduced by Apple in iPhone 12 and subsequent models. It uses a built-in circle of magnets to achieve precise alignment between the device and the charger, thereby improving charging efficiency and user experience.

The Qi2 protocol is a new wireless charging standard launched by the WPC Wireless Power Consortium (Wireless Power Consortium) in January 2023. This standard draws on Apple's MagSafe technology and expands and standardizes it, making it suitable not only for Apple devices, but also for devices of other brands.

However, since most domestic mobile phone manufacturers use private protocols and have increased the wireless charging power to 40W-50W, which is much higher than the 15W power of the Qi2 standard, they are not willing to follow up on the Qi2 protocol. Take the vivo X100s pro released in May this year as an example, the Qi protocol standard it supports is still 1.3.3.

Guancha.com checked the official website of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and found that among the mobile phones currently sold in China, only Apple's iPhone supports the Qi2 protocol, and no domestic mobile phone manufacturers support the protocol. This means that after the new regulations are implemented, the iPhone will be the model most affected.

According to Article 16 of the regulations, starting from September 1, all wireless charging devices that are being produced or imported and sold and do not meet the requirements will be required to stop production and sales. Wireless charging devices produced or imported before this date can continue to be used until they are scrapped.

In addition, according to IT Home, Apple has now modified the power information of iPhone wireless charging on its official website.

The "Wireless Charging Device Statement" on Apple's official website shows that the iPhone supports 7.5W wireless charging and uses a frequency of 127.7kHz. It does not show 15W fast wireless charging and the 360KHz wireless frequency used.

In the remarks column, Apple specifically stated that the device complies with the country's "Interim Provisions on Radio Management of Wireless Charging (Power Transmission) Equipment" as well as relevant regulations such as product quality, electromagnetic radiation and electrical safety, laws and regulations, national standards, etc.

In this regard, Observer.com asked Apple customer service, who said that they had not received any notification yet, but expected that devices that have already been purchased would not be affected.
