On August 23, Beijing Mobile announced the official commercial use of 5G-A and released a number of application scenario experience packages, allowing Beijing citizens to "try out" the 5G-A network for free. It is reported that Beijing Mobile has currently opened more than 7,000 5G-A base stations, achieving continuous coverage within the Sixth Ring Road and suburban counties.
In the 5G-A network experience area, several shirts are neatly hung on a row of clothing racks, and the digital store management system is displayed on a large screen. The number, type and location of the clothes are displayed in detail. "As long as the customer picks up the clothes, the digital background will know," said the staff.
How can clothes "go online" by themselves? The secret lies in the tag of the clothes - the tag contains a "label", which is a passive IoT terminal. It can receive signals from the base station and transmit information without being connected to a power source, thus realizing information interaction. Through these "labels", the business stores can take inventory of the number of clothes, the purchase rate, locate the location of the clothes, and count the pick-up rate, the fitting rate and other information.
In addition to passive IoT, the experience zone also showcased 5G-A's endogenous intelligence, inter-sensory integration and other cutting-edge capabilities, and demonstrated the development of new industrialization such as warehousing and logistics, low-altitude economy, and Internet of Vehicles enabled by 5G-A. "So far, Beijing Mobile has opened more than 7,000 5G-A base stations, achieving universal coverage within the Sixth Ring Road and suburban counties," said Li Qiang, general manager of Beijing Mobile.
China Mobile APP pageIn the experience area, citizens can also experience the 5G-A network at close range: they can chat with friends using the new call system while playing large-scale games on the same screen; they can exercise in real time with the AI "coach" on the screen, and receive real-time reminders if their movements are not standard; and they can use virtual digital people for 4K live broadcasts, which can achieve lower latency and less lag than 5G networks.
At the press conference, Beijing Mobile launched for the first time a variety of products for citizens, including 5G-A venue packages, business travel packages, game packages, live broadcast packages, etc. From now until the end of 2024, citizens can receive exclusive scenario package products through the China Mobile APP. There are only 1,000 experience spots available, and after receiving them, they can experience it for free for 3 months.
It is reported that the current mobile 5G-A network can provide a maximum downlink rate of 3Gbps (gigabits per second) and an uplink rate of 200Mbps (megabits per second), but citizens need to be in areas covered by 5G-A and use mobile phones that support 5G-A terminals to truly enjoy the 5G-A network.
Previously, China Mobile announced the first batch of 100 cities where 5G-A networks will be commercially available, and announced plans to expand to more than 300 cities across the country within the year to build the world's largest 5G-A commercial network. It also plans to promote the industry chain to launch more than 20 5G-A terminals within the year and develop more than 20 million 5G-A terminal users.
