According to a report on the U.S. News Weekly website on August 22, according to a Russian official and some military bloggers, the Ukrainian army entered the Bryansk region adjacent to Kursk on the 21st as it further advanced in Russia's Kursk Oblast.

A well-known Russian military blogger said on the evening of the 21st that the Ukrainian army attacked the area around the Zabrama settlement at around 7 pm local time. Zabrama is located northeast of Kiev and the settlement is near the border with Chernihiv in northern Ukraine.

The blogger wrote that Russian border guards and Chechen special forces operators clashed with "at least 20 soldiers" and that Ukrainian troops then "retreated."

Bryansk Oblast Governor Alexander Bogomaz said on the 21st that a Ukrainian "sabotage and reconnaissance organization" had attempted to enter the Klimovo district of Bryansk, but the Russian Federal Security Service and the military "blocked" the action.

"Currently, the situation at the conflict site has stabilized," Bogomaz said.

Although the conflict is concentrated in Kursk, neighboring Russian border regions are also feeling the effects of Ukraine's cross-border operations in the region.

A federal state of emergency has been declared in Belgorod Oblast, and there are continued reports of Ukrainian drone attacks in border areas.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said on the morning of the 22nd that its air defense system intercepted 28 drones at night, including one over Bryansk, another over Kursk, four over Belgorod, and two over the Voronezh region bordering Belgorod.
