At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, Deng Yue, a swimmer from Chengdu, won an Olympic silver medal. Since she first started swimming in 2013, Deng Yue has never given up this sport. Her life has become more exciting because of this swimming pool!
When he first started training, Deng Yue was in poor physical condition, his lower limbs could not move, and he could only rely on his hands to exert force, so he could only participate in S2-level competitions. After continuous training, his competition level gradually increased from S2 to S5.
In the swimming event for physically disabled people, "S" is the abbreviation of swimming, and the numbers from 1 to 10 represent the degree of disability. The smaller the number, the more severe the disability. 2 represents disability in all four limbs, especially the lower limbs.
Over the years, Deng Yue has participated in many large and small competitions. In the swimming competition of the 9th Chengdu Paralympic Games and the 5th Special Olympics, Deng Yue participated in the women's limb-disabled group S5 and SB4 swimming competitions, a total of 4 games, and won first place in all of them. This year, Deng Yue just graduated from high school.
Facing a crossroads in life, Deng Yue hesitated: should he continue training or further his studies?
Deng Yue's years of swimming career have shaped her into a girl who never gives up, is confident and determined. She chose to go out into the world to see a wider world.
In 2021, Deng Yue packed her bags and set off to study in Poland. At the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, she studied Sino-European cultural exchange. This is Marie Curie's alma mater, which is one of the reasons why Deng Yue chose to study here. They seem to have the same qualities, never giving up in their respective fields, and constantly climbing on the road of life.
The 10th Chengdu Games for People with Disabilities and the 6th Special Olympics will be held in 2024. Deng Yue made a special trip back to Chengdu from Poland to prepare for the competition. Deng Yue said that he has been focusing on his studies in recent years, which has led to insufficient arm strength and a slight gap with his previous achievements, but he still cannot give up swimming.
During the preparation days, Deng Yue spent most of her day in the swimming pool. In addition to physical training, she swam at least 10,000 meters every day.
Deng Yue’s goal is to win a gold medal. “I have just been back for a few months, and I haven’t fully recovered to my previous performance. I am still a little far from my goal, but I have confidence.” Deng Yue said that hard-working, brave and determined girls will eventually be favored by the goddess of fate.
Let us look forward to Deng Yue surpassing himself and achieving great results!
