A reporter from The Paper learned from the Run Run Shaw Hospital affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine that Comrade Pan Konghan, a critical care medicine expert and director of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the Run Run Shaw Hospital affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine, died in Hangzhou late at night on August 17, 2024 at the age of 60 due to illness.

Pan Konghan was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province in November 1964. From 1981 to 1989, he studied at the former Zhejiang Medical University and obtained a master's degree. From August 1989 to October 1997, he worked at the Red Cross Hospital of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. From November 1997 until his death, he worked in the Department of Critical Care Medicine of the Run Run Shaw Hospital affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine.

Before his death, Pan Konghan served as the director and academic leader of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Zhejiang University Run Run Shaw Hospital, and vice president of the Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Zhejiang Medical Association. He was an outstanding leader in critical care medicine in Zhejiang Province.

Pan Konghan has made outstanding contributions to the development of the Department of Critical Care Medicine of the Zhejiang University Run Run Shaw Hospital. Under his leadership, after nearly 30 years of development, the Department of Critical Care Medicine of the Zhejiang University Run Run Shaw Hospital has become a world-class critical care medicine center integrating medical treatment, scientific research and teaching, and a professional training base for critical care medicine in Zhejiang Province. He has superb skills and set an example for his students. He has made many pioneering works in the research fields of critical heart disease, critical infection, etc., undertaken many major national and provincial scientific research tasks, and published many research results in famous domestic and foreign journals. He has won many honors such as the Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Award.

In early 2020, Pan Konghan was ordered to support Wuhan in an emergency and served as the temporary first party branch secretary of the hospital's medical team to Wuhan Union Hospital. From taking over the intensive care unit of Wuhan Union Hospital as a whole to actively petitioning to transfer to Wuhan Pulmonary Hospital, Pan Konghan and the medical team spent 47 sleepless nights in Wuhan, and completed the important task of assisting Hubei with professional knowledge and warm service, demonstrating the great anti-epidemic spirit of putting life first, national unity, selfless dedication, respect for science, and sharing a common destiny.

As an expert in critical care medicine, Pan Konghan also actively participated in the hospital's COVID-19 screening and diagnosis and treatment standard formulation, and tirelessly provided professional guidance to various clinical departments. The First Party Branch of the Department of Critical Care Medicine and the First Temporary Party Branch of the Medical Team Aid to Wuhan Union Hospital, of which he served as branch secretary, were awarded the title of Advanced Collective in the Fight against COVID-19 in Zhejiang Province and Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of Zhejiang University.
