"The traditional friendship between Laos and China has a long history. The holding of the 2024 China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week is of great significance to Laos. As this year's ASEAN rotating chair, we feel deeply honored and responsible." Kambay Thanla, Vice Chairman of the Lao National Assembly, said that in October last year, the leaders of Laos and China held talks in Beijing and jointly signed a new version of the action plan for building a community with a shared future between China and Laos, which pushed the relations between the two countries and the two parties to a new level. This also provided new opportunities for Laos and Guizhou to build consensus on development and deepen exchanges and cooperation.
Kambay Thanla, Vice Chairman of the Lao National Assembly, is interviewed by reporters.
Cambay Thanmala said that Laos is willing to work with Guizhou to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, jointly seize the opportunities of discussing, building and sharing the "Belt and Road" initiative, and further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between ASEAN member states and Guizhou in various fields.
Cambay Danla believes that Guizhou has obvious advantages in the fields of culture, tourism, and mineral resource development. In recent years, the two sides have found the right cooperation points to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Among them, the most prominent are the opening and operation of the China-Laos Railway and the Wanwan Expressway. The interconnection of infrastructure has provided convenient conditions for transportation from Vientiane, the capital of Laos, to the Boten-Mohan Port on the Lao-China border. The investment of enterprises on both sides has continued to increase, and economic and trade cooperation has continued to deepen. In terms of educational cooperation, since 2008, the number of Laotian students studying in Guizhou has reached 10,000. Many of the cooperation projects signed by ASEAN member states and Guizhou at the opening ceremony involve human resources training and other aspects. Laos is willing to use the China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week platform to continue to deepen cooperation with Guizhou in the fields of talent education. In terms of cultural and tourism exchanges, in May this year, the "Colorful Guizhou" Guizhou-Vientiane tourist train was successfully launched, which also opened up new space for Laos and Guizhou to deepen tourism cooperation.
"I am particularly pleased that Champasak and Luang Namtha provinces of Laos have built a good platform for sister city exchanges with Guizhou." Cambet Danla said that he hopes to further consolidate and expand sister city exchanges and strengthen cooperation in various fields on this basis. As the rotating chair of ASEAN this year, Laos will also promote more ASEAN member states to visit Guizhou, and further deepen cooperation based on the "Golden Corridor" of the China-Laos Railway, making positive contributions to building a community with a shared future for China and Laos.
