The China Securities Regulatory Commission has recently approved the registration of four non-ferrous metal options on the Shanghai Futures Exchange: lead, nickel, tin and alumina.

Lead, nickel, tin, alumina and other non-ferrous metals are important basic industrial raw materials and are widely used in electronics, automobiles, construction, alloy casting and new energy batteries. For many years, my country has long been at the forefront of the world in the production and consumption of refined lead, primary nickel, refined tin, alumina and other products. There are many upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain, large trade scale and strong demand for risk management. Since 2011, the Shanghai Futures Exchange has successively listed lead, nickel, tin and alumina futures. Since listing, the four futures products have become important risk management tools for my country's non-ferrous metal industry.

With the high-quality development of the nonferrous metals industry, the demand for refined and diversified risk management of enterprises has increased, and the market has continuously called for the launch of options based on the underlying futures. The listing of lead, nickel, tin and alumina options will further improve the relevant product series, provide more complete risk management tools and more flexible hedging strategies for enterprises in the industrial chain, meet the high-level risk management needs of enterprises, and also help improve the quality and efficiency of the underlying futures market.

At present, the Shanghai Futures Exchange has listed 9 varieties of options including copper, aluminum, zinc, natural rubber and gold. The overall operation is stable. All links such as trading, settlement and exercise have been tested by the market, providing a solid foundation for the listing of subsequent options.
