According to reports, local police said the boy found a 9mm pistol in his house and shot himself in the head.

The boy's parents and others were in another room at the time. His father rushed into the room immediately after hearing the gunshots and performed CPR on him, but to no avail.

It is reported that the police concluded that this case should be an accident and have not yet filed charges against his parents. The relevant investigation is ongoing.

According to reports, a statement issued by the "Wilson and Hansack families" on the 23rd called the shooting an "unimaginable tragedy" and reminded people to take precautions to ensure the safety of children.

The Giffords Law Center, an anti-gun violence group, said Utah has no law that penalizes leaving an unattended gun in the hands of an unsupervised minor, requires that unsupervised guns be stored in a certain way, or that guns be accompanied by locks.

Guns are rampant in American society. According to data from Everytown, a gun safety advocacy organization, at least 157 people died in the United States in 2023 due to shootings accidentally caused by children and teenagers, and another 270 were injured.
