In the midsummer of August, outside the Great Wall and in the south of the Yangtze River, youth women's football teams from 14 prefectures (autonomous regions and municipalities) in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region gathered in Ili, Xinjiang. From August 20 to 24, the "Pomegranate Flowers·Dream-Chasing Girls" 2024 Autonomous Region Youth Women's Football Invitational Tournament hosted by the Women's Federation of the Autonomous Region, the Sports Bureau of the Autonomous Region, and the Education Department of the Autonomous Region, and undertaken by the Ili Prefecture Women's Federation, the Ili Prefecture Sports Bureau, and the Ili Prefecture Education Bureau was staged here. The highly anticipated women's football girls will pursue their dreams on the green field and show their style in these days.

The heroic duel begins

On August 20, the sky was clear and the clouds were light. Nearly 1,500 athletes, coaches, referees, spectators, volunteers and others gathered at Yining No. 10 Middle School. The opening ceremony kicked off with a solemn flag-raising ceremony. Accompanied by exciting music, the national flag team, the race flag team, the referee team and the athlete team entered the venue in turn with sonorous steps. The referee representatives and athlete representatives took solemn oaths respectively.

"Grab her!" "Run!"... The exciting and thrilling opening match began. The Ili Prefecture team and the Altay Prefecture team started. The football kept flying across the two sides' half of the field. The players on both sides chased each other and were evenly matched. For a while, the game was intense. In order to kick the football into the opponent's goal, the players tried their best.

Driving past the opponent and going straight in, every move was full of power and vitality, and every goal moment was exciting. After fierce competition, the score quickly became 3:3. At the last penalty kick, the Yili team kicked a crucial goal and won the game 4:3, making a good start in this competition.

Persistence, hard work, unity and friendship

"The children had just participated in the Youth Football Championship in Aksu. On the way to Yili, the train they were taking turned back due to weather conditions, so everyone took a bus to Yili overnight. The children were on the train, train and bus for nearly 48 hours. This episode caused us to miss the first group match." Coach Ke Rui, the team counselor of Urumqi No. 116 Middle School, told the China Women's News All-Media reporter, "But these difficulties cannot stop the children's determination to compete and play football."

In the first match of the Urumqi team on the morning of the 21st, they won by a large margin with their strength, and then achieved a score of 4:1 in the afternoon match. "Playing football is hard, but our children are very hardworking! They never rest during winter and summer vacations, their skin is tanned, and they will go all out in every game!"

The game was full of excitement, with the women's football players showing their excellent competitive level and tenacious fighting spirit. Off the field, the girls also blossomed the flower of friendship. On the opening day, a player of the Yili team celebrated her birthday, and the victory of the game became her best birthday gift. After the game, the children sang the birthday song in unison and sent her blessings.

Fierce matches are going on, each one is thrilling, and every second is changing rapidly. The women's football players are fighting bravely and giving their all on the green field, and their passionate sweat is spilled on the field. They use football to convey friendship, use unity to gather strength, and use sweat to reflect dreams.

Competition Stage Learning Classroom

"I like Wang Shuang." "I like Messi and Neymar." "I am playing as a defender this time, and I will keep playing in the future."... In the past few days, 210 female football players gathered in Yili, allowing everyone to feel their love for football.

"Last year, our school team participated in the city's competition and won first place. I am very excited and proud to participate in the Xinjiang competition this time." Nazmu Yerboli from the Sixth Middle School of Wusu City, Tacheng District, told reporters that for her, this competition is both a competitive stage and a learning classroom. "I hope to surpass myself last year and win more games!"

Nazmu Yerboli, 14 years old this year, started playing football with her brother in fifth grade. Gradually, she fell in love with football. After entering junior high school, she joined the football club and was later selected to join the school's women's football team. "My joy in playing football has always come from my love for football. Now I am the captain of the school team. My parents, who originally did not support me, have also started to support me in playing football. I want to use practical actions to prove to everyone that girls can also play football well."

With the popularization of women's football on campus, more and more Xinjiang girls like to play football. The China Women's Development Foundation also leverages the advantages of its public welfare platform to coordinate charitable funds and material support and introduce a high-level, professional coaching team.

Today in Xinjiang, schools, parents and other forces are protecting children's love for football. Like Nazmu Yerboli, more and more Xinjiang girls have planted the seeds of love for football in their hearts, and through their own efforts, they have allowed these seeds to take root and sprout.
