In the traditional manufacturing model, many processes on the production line have to be completed manually. With the rapid development of industrial robot technology, more and more manufacturing companies have begun to use industrial robots to optimize production processes. In many factories, from assembly, welding, painting to handling and packaging, the application of industrial robots has almost run through the entire production process.
Take automobile manufacturing as an example. In the past, the welding of automobile bodies was usually done manually by workers, which was not only inefficient but also difficult to ensure the precision and accuracy of the operation. Today, highly automated welding robots have been used in automobile production workshops, helping companies move from "manufacturing" to "intelligent manufacturing."

At the 2024 World Robot Conference, Jia Jiying, director of the AI Laboratory of Peitian Robot Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Beijing Mechatronics, told reporters that their independently developed automotive welding robots can already support the production rhythm of "one car per minute" in automobile manufacturing factories through efficient operation.
Jia Jiying introduced: "We use 3D vision and deep learning technology to automatically identify the weld of the workpiece, and then realize autonomous planning of the welding path through automatic path planning. In the process, we mainly realize its automation, reduce manual participation, and can greatly improve the efficiency of welding. It can work 24 hours a day without interruption, with very high work efficiency, very fast movement speed and good stability."
In addition to improving production efficiency and quality, industrial robots also bring better and safer working environments. In many high-risk or harmful working environments such as heavy metal processing and chemical handling, the use of robots can greatly reduce the health risks of workers. Fan Chunhui, deputy director of the Robot Engineering Center of China Electronics Robotics Co., Ltd., gave an example: "For example, in the inspection of chemical plants, automatic robots equipped with gas detectors and binocular cameras in chemical plants can identify safe points and accurately identify the leakage of dangerous gases."
In recent years, my country's industrial robot market has flourished. Data shows that industrial robot applications have covered 60 major industries and 168 medium industries in my country's national economy. my country has been the world's largest industrial robot market for 10 consecutive years.
In addition, the localization of key components of industrial robots has also reached a "new level". Xu Xiaolan, president of the China Electronics Society, said that the four core components of my country's industrial robots have developed from being heavily dependent on imports 10 years ago to now having formed their own rich product spectrum, with a significant improvement in technical level and industrialization capabilities.
Xu Xiaolan introduced: "We have achieved 100% self-sufficiency in almost many parts and components, and we also export some core parts and components. In particular, the technology and level of independent innovation of our core parts and components have been greatly improved."
With the rapid development of China's industrial robot industry, more and more domestic industrial robot companies are accelerating their overseas expansion. According to data from the International Federation of Robotics, China's industrial robot exports hit a new high in 2023, reaching 118,300 units. The "star" robot products that are popular overseas are mainly used in home appliance manufacturing, automobile manufacturing, communications electronics, logistics and warehousing and other industries.
Cheng Hufeng, senior director of the automotive industry at Shenyang Siasun Robot Automation Co., Ltd., said that relying on the continuous expansion of my country's vehicle exports, more and more domestically-made industrial robots will accelerate their "going overseas".
Cheng Hufeng said: "At present, China's car manufacturing power has gradually gone overseas, such as Southeast Asia, Mexico, the Middle East and other countries. These mainstream vehicle manufacturers must take their core manufacturing equipment abroad, and robots are one of the very important equipment. In the near future, I think it will be in the next one or two years, domestic robots will definitely go overseas with vehicle manufacturers as core equipment."
