It is reported that the incident was caused by three users who posted that "Black Myth: Wukong" plagiarized their works. One of them was a photographic work, and the photographer claimed that the sculpture in the game was plagiarized from his own photo and was moved intact.

Another person claimed that Yang Jian's arm guard in the game plagiarized a handmade work made by a teacher, and attached comparison pictures.

The last one showed a comparison between an ancient painting of the Monkey King’s remains in the game and his own “Atlas of Characters in Journey to the West” published in 2012. However, he did not mention any topics about plagiarism or reference. He just said: "It seems that the Monkey King I drew has changed his equipment. Maybe he leveled up by killing monsters. So cool."
