Recently, it has been widely rumored that the President of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr. Samuel Lam, will run in the election for the next Chief Executive. Yesterday, Mr. Lam said that he was considering it and would announce further news.

After attending a public event yesterday afternoon, Sam Ho Fai accepted an interview with the media. Some media asked whether he was interested in running for the new Chief Executive election? Sam Ho Fai responded by thanking everyone for their concern and said that the Chief Executive is a noble position to serve the Macao Special Administrative Region and the residents. He has always had the desire to serve Macao, and some friends have encouraged him to continue to contribute to Macao. He said: "I am considering the question you (the media) just raised, and I will tell you if there is further news."

Sam Hou Fai was the first President of the Court of Final Appeal of the Macao Special Administrative Region and has been re-elected to date. He has rich experience and a high status in the Macao legal community.

According to information on the government website, Sam Hao Fai, who was born in mainland China in May 1962, graduated from the Law Department of Peking University, completed the Portuguese language, culture and law courses at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, the introduction to law course at the University of Macau, and the first Macau Judicial Officers Training Course and subsequent advanced courses at the Macau Judicial Officers Training Center.

Sam Ho Fai was a practicing lawyer in the Mainland. He returned to Macau from Portugal in 1993 and became one of the first judicial counselors of the court in 1995. He worked in the court and the procuratorate at the same time. In 1997, he served as a judge of the Macau Court of General Jurisdiction and was later elected as a member of the Macau Judicial Committee.

On 20 December 1999, he was appointed by the Chief Executive as the President of the Court of Final Appeal of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and subsequently served as Chairman of the Judges Committee, member of the Independent Committee for Recommending Judges, member of the Working Group on Inter-Regional Judicial Assistance and International Judicial Assistance, and Honorary President of the Macao Basic Law Promotion Association.
