On August 23, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning hosted a regular press conference.

A reporter from Kyodo News asked, according to reports, Lin Chia-lung, head of Taiwan's foreign affairs department, and Wu Zhaoxie, secretary-general of Taiwan's National Security Council, will arrive in Washington this week to meet with senior US government officials. This meeting is the first visit to the US by a senior Taiwanese official since Lai Ching-te took office as "president" in May. What is China's comment on this?

"First of all, there is no 'president' in Taiwan. Regarding your question, China firmly opposes any form of official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan. This position is consistent and very clear," said Mao Ning.

She said that we urge the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués, implement the commitments made by US leaders on Taiwan-related issues, handle Taiwan-related issues with extreme caution, stop official exchanges between the US and Taiwan, stop escalating substantive relations between the US and Taiwan, and stop condoning and supporting separatist activities of "Taiwan independence" in any way.
