According to staff from the Qinghai Provincial Meteorological Bureau, the Qinghai Delingha National Basic Meteorological Station located in the Qaidam Basin recently successfully launched the first Beidou satellite navigation system sonde, marking the official start of the trial operation of the Beidou sounding service at the Delingha National Basic Meteorological Station.
The trial operation of the Beidou sounding service means that Delingha has officially entered the sequence of 131 Beidou sounding high-altitude meteorological observation stations across the country. It is also the eighth high-altitude meteorological observation station in Qinghai. For the first time, the observation mode has been changed from ground observation to "ground + high-altitude" collaborative observation, effectively filling the gap in high-altitude meteorological observation services and data in the hinterland of the Qaidam Basin.
The BeiDou sounding observation system is the third generation sounding system independently developed by China. It has the capability of "floating" sounding observation, that is, it can obtain high-altitude continuous meteorological observation data for about 6 hours in three stages of ascent, floating and descent with one ball release, breaking China's high-altitude meteorological observation mode that has lasted for hundreds of years. As one of the 11 newly built BeiDou sounding stations in China, Delingha has recently carried out a number of preparatory work, including the construction of BeiDou sounding high-altitude meteorological observation station infrastructure, installation and debugging of BeiDou sounding system software and hardware, and ball release test, and successfully completed them before the specified time node. During the trial operation of the BeiDou sounding service, the BeiDou satellite navigation receiver accurately positioned the BeiDou sounding instrument and received good signals. The detection termination height was 34,385.3 meters.
The successful launch of the Beidou satellite navigation system's radiosonde opened the curtain on the history of high-altitude meteorological observation in Delingha, which is of great significance for filling the gap in meteorological observation capabilities in the Qaidam Basin, improving meteorological disaster prevention, mitigation and relief capabilities, and the level of national meteorological modernization.
