In the famous anti-Japanese war drama "Drawing Sword", Chu Yunfei's 358th Regiment of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army not only has 5,000 people, but also has an artillery battalion.

This is of course the effect of film and television art, because in the real history of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army, no matter how strengthened a regiment was, it would never reach 5,000 people; especially in the context of the middle and late stages of the War of Resistance Against Japan, a size of 5,000 people was almost the actual strength of a reinforced division of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army.

However, there was no problem with the fact that the Jinsui Army's artillery was large in scale and had low equipment levels.

This was mainly because the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army relied on the output of the Taiyuan Arsenal to build a large artillery unit; even after the fall of Taiyuan, relying on the original equipment inventory, the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army's artillery scale still had several regiments and hundreds of guns.

During the peak period of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army, its artillery was even larger, reaching 7 artillery brigades and 17 artillery regiments. In addition to the 75mm mountain gun, it was equipped with the rare 88mm field gun and 105mm heavy mountain gun. The Taiyuan Arsenal even trial-produced two 150mm howitzers, but these guns were not mass-produced.

After the Central Plains War, the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army's ambition to compete for the Central Plains was defeated, and it also accepted the unified numbering from Nanjing.

In terms of artillery, the 21st to 29th Artillery Regiments were reorganized, and there was also an artillery battalion that could take on the number of the 30th Regiment, so there is also a saying that the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army had 10 artillery regiments.

Among these 10 artillery regiments, the most special one is the 22nd Artillery Regiment.

Because the artillery equipped by this regiment is the heaviest and of course the most complex, its main equipment is the Jin-made Type 16 105mm heavy mountain cannon; at the same time, it is also mixed with the Jin-made Type 18 88mm field gun and 75mm mountain cannon.

Among the main equipment of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army at that time, the 75mm mountain cannon was the most common, so it is not worth mentioning; but the heavy mountain cannon and field cannon with larger caliber are quite special products; and the larger caliber also means longer range and greater power.

For example, the Type 16 105mm heavy mountain gun made in Jin, with a shell weight of 12 kg and a range of up to 5965 meters;

The Jin-made Type 18 88mm field gun has a shell weight of 9 kg and a range of up to 10,500 meters.

Simply looking at the above two indicators, it is much stronger than most of the artillery we were equipped at that time; so the 22nd Artillery Regiment with "composite" equipment can certainly be regarded as the most "powerful" regiment in the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army.

Even considering the situation of domestic artillery at that time, the 22nd Artillery Regiment could be ranked among the best in the country's artillery equipment.

So what is the specific configuration of the above-mentioned artillery within the regiment?

The 22nd Artillery Regiment has three artillery battalions:

The 1st Artillery Battalion, two companies were equipped with the Jin-made Type 16 105mm heavy mountain guns; the 3rd company was equipped with 75mm mountain guns;

The 2nd Artillery Battalion, two companies equipped with 75mm mountain guns; the 3rd company equipped with the Jin-made Type 18 88mm field gun;

The 3rd Artillery Battalion, both companies are equipped with the Shanxi-made Type 16 105mm heavy mountain cannon.

The reason why the 3rd Artillery Battalion has only two artillery companies is actually a feature of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army, because all of its artillery regiments' 3rd Battalions have only two companies; according to the old people of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army, this is to make it easier to take advantage of the situation, but the organization reported at the time was only two companies. The specific reason why it was not organized according to the three-three system is unclear.

Therefore, to summarize the artillery equipment of the 22nd Artillery Regiment, there are a total of 4 Jin-made Type 16 105mm heavy mountain artillery companies, 3 Jin-made 75mm mountain artillery companies, and 1 Jin-made Type 18 88mm field artillery company.

Generally speaking, the artillery company of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army at that time was equipped with four guns.

Therefore, the 22nd Artillery Regiment should have 16 105mm heavy mountain guns, 12 75mm mountain guns, and 4 88mm field guns.

Compared with other artillery regiments that are mainly equipped with 75mm mountain guns, or even artillery regiments that are equipped entirely with 75mm mountain guns, the 22nd Artillery Regiment is obviously better equipped.

In the early stage of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, this artillery regiment played a very important role in fighting against the Japanese invaders, but it also paid a huge price and many artillery pieces were damaged.

Later, when the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army reorganized its artillery, the number of the 22nd Artillery Regiment had disappeared. Except for one company directly under the Artillery Cadre Regiment, the heavy mountain artillery was mainly concentrated in the 27th Artillery Regiment; and the field artillery was in the 23rd Artillery Regiment. This organization basically continued until the end of the War of Resistance Against Japan.
