IT Home reported on August 23 that as part of the Intel Scalable Video Technology (SVT) program, Intel has been developing SVT-HEVC as a BSD-licensed open source high-performance H.265/HEVC video encoder that is optimized for Xeon Scalable and Xeon D processors.

However, the SVT-HEVC open source encoder project has recently officially stopped development. SVT-HEVC has not released a new version since 2021. Three weeks ago, the SVT-HEVC upstream stopped development, the GitHub repository was archived as read-only, and the stop notice is as follows:

Project Termination

Intel will no longer maintain this project. Intel has discontinued development and contributions to this project, including but not limited to maintenance, bug fixes, new versions or updates.

Intel is no longer accepting patches for this project. If you have an ongoing need to use the project, are interested in developing it independently, or want to maintain patches for the open source software community, please fork the project yourself.

IT Home noticed that Intel also has an SVT-VP9 open source project. The project has not had any new submissions in the past four months, and the last marked version was in 2020. The official has not yet issued a notice to stop development.
