Hao Hongjun, former chairman of the Dalian Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Liaoning Province, who was reported to be under investigation during the Lantern Festival in February last year, has been tried a few days ago.

According to the WeChat public account "Supreme People's Court", on August 22, 2024, the Handan Intermediate People's Court of Hebei Province held a public trial of the case of bribery by Hao Hongjun, former secretary of the Party Group and chairman of the Dalian Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of Liaoning Province.

The People's Procuratorate of Handan City, Hebei Province filed an indictment alleging that from January 2006 to before the Spring Festival of 2023, the defendant Hao Hongjun used the convenience of his positions as deputy mayor of Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, secretary of the Party Committee and director of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, member of the Standing Committee of Fushun Municipal Party Committee, Liaoning Province, secretary of the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection, director of the Supervisory Commission, deputy secretary of the Liaoning Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, deputy director of the Supervisory Commission, and chairman of the Dalian Municipal CPPCC, as well as the convenience formed by his power or status, to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in matters such as the purchase and transfer of bank shares, project contracting, commodity sales, case handling, and promotion, and illegally accepted property directly or through others totaling more than RMB 74.98 million.The procuratorate proposed that Hao Hongjun be held criminally responsible for the crime of accepting bribes.

During the trial, the procuratorate presented relevant evidence, the defendant Hao Hongjun and his defense counsel conducted cross-examination, the prosecution and defense fully expressed their opinions under the auspices of the court, Hao Hongjun made a final statement, pleading guilty and expressing remorse in court. At the end of the trial, the court announced a recess and the verdict will be announced at a later date.

The above charges show that Hao Hongjun had been accepting bribes for 17 years, and was still accepting bribes during the Spring Festival shortly before his fall.

Public information shows that Hao Hongjun, male, Han nationality, was born in December 1962, started working in September 1984, joined the Communist Party of China in April 1988, and has an in-service postgraduate degree and a master's degree.

He has served as deputy mayor and director of the Yingkou Municipal Public Security Bureau, member of the Standing Committee of the Fushun Municipal Party Committee and secretary of the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection, member of the Standing Committee of the Dalian Municipal Party Committee and secretary of the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection, and deputy secretary of the Liaoning Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection. In January 2022, he was appointed chairman of the Dalian Municipal CPPCC.

On February 5, 2023, the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month, the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission once again "clicked three times with one click" and announced at 11:55 a.m. on the same day that three central-level officials were suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and were subject to disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, including: Hao Hongjun, Chairman and Party Secretary of the Dalian CPPCC of Liaoning Province, Yi Pengfei, member of the Party Leadership Group and former Vice Chairman of the Hunan CPPCC, and Jiao Xiaoping, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Commander of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

In July of the same year, the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced the news of Hao Hongjun's "double dismissal": upon investigation, Hao Hongjun had lost his ideals and beliefs, betrayed his duties and mission, resisted organizational review, and engaged in superstitious activities; he ignored the spirit of the Central Committee's eight regulations, entered and exited private clubs in violation of regulations, accepted travel arrangements by private business owners, and borrowed vehicles from management and service objects for a long time; he violated organizational principles, failed to report personal matters in accordance with regulations, did not truthfully explain the problems during interviews and inquiries, sought benefits for others in the selection and appointment of cadres, and undermined the atmosphere of personnel selection and employment in his unit; he had no sense of discipline, accepted gifts and money on a large scale, and used his power to profit from the business activities of his relatives; he alienated the power granted by the Party and the people into a tool for personal gain, violated discipline in the enforcement of discipline and law in the enforcement of law, and interfered in the handling of cases, seriously undermining the image of discipline inspection and supervision cadres; he was willing to be "hunted", colluded with illegal business owners, engaged in power-for-money transactions, used the convenience of his position to seek benefits for others in business operations and project contracting, and illegally accepted huge amounts of property.
