China News Service, Bangkok, August 21 (Reporter Li Yingmin) The Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand reported on the 21st the first suspected case of monkeypox found in Thailand.

It is reported that the suspected patient arrived in Thailand on August 14, and 43 close contacts have been confirmed.

The suspected patient is a 66-year-old European male who entered Thailand from Africa, transited in the Middle East, and arrived in Thailand at 18:00 on August 14. On August 15, the suspected patient developed fever and small lumps. The hospital tested him for the monkeypox variant Clade2, and the result was negative. Subsequently, a test for the monkeypox variant 1b was conducted, and the results are not yet clear.

Currently, the hospital is conducting RT-PCR testing through gene extraction to confirm the strain. The suspected patient is not seriously ill and has no other symptoms or complications. Although the test results have not yet been finalized, the CDC believes it is necessary to inform the public as soon as possible.

According to reports, the CDC's disease investigation team has contacted 43 close contacts and asked them to monitor themselves for 21 days and seek medical attention immediately if they develop symptoms. However, since monkeypox can only spread the virus after symptoms appear, it does not require isolation like the new coronavirus. (End)
