Israeli authorities said on August 20 local time that the Israel Defense Forces and the Security Agency successfully brought back the bodies of six Israeli hostages from Hamas' "underground tunnel" in a joint night military operation in Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip.

A joint statement from the IDF and the Security Service said the operation "benefited from precise intelligence provided by the intelligence services of both agencies and the IDF Intelligence Hostage Headquarters."

"Tonight, our troops brought back and returned the bodies of six hostages held by Hamas." Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu issued a statement on the 20th, thanking the Israeli soldiers for participating in this "brave and determined action."
