At the recently held 2024 China Aviation Science Popularization Education Theme Forum, the evaluation results of the "National Aviation Featured Schools" were announced. Jiading No. 1 Middle School was among them and was awarded a plaque on the spot as one of the school representatives.
Li Yuan, principal of Jiading No. 1 Middle School, introduced that as a Shanghai science and technology education demonstration school, the school has always regarded aviation education as an important part of science and technology education in recent years, and has successively launched a series of elective courses with distinctive aviation characteristics, such as "UAV flight training" and "aircraft design and production", for students to choose independently according to their own interests and future career plans, so as to comprehensively improve their aerospace literacy and scientific literacy.
In the school's drone training ground, student Mao Yiwen can often be seen concentrating on her work. "Every time I operate a drone and surpass myself, I feel extremely excited and proud." Mao Yiwen has been interested in drones since she was a child and is determined to become an outstanding "female pilot." Today, with the professional courses and practical training platforms provided by the school, her dream is gradually coming true.
In addition to imparting aviation science and technology knowledge in the classroom, the school also invites academicians, experts, scientists, researchers and other scientific and technological workers to the campus through the "Academician Lecture Hall", "Jiayi General Courses", "Jiayi Science Forum" and "Dual Tutor System". In the "First Class of the New School Year" last year, the school invited Wu Guanghui, chief designer of the C919 large aircraft and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, to give a popular science report entitled "Supporting the Backbone of Large Aircraft and Let China's Large Aircraft Soar into the Blue Sky", which planted the seeds of "serving the country with science" in the hearts of students.
It is worth mentioning that the school not only imparts knowledge, but also encourages students to write scientific research papers and trains students' thinking and scientific expression through project reports. At the "Jiayi Science Forum", student Wang Suyang gave a wonderful report on his research project "Real-time detection and positioning technology of golden apple snail eggs based on drone platform", which won unanimous praise from researchers present. At the 39th Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition held later, Wang Suyang won the second prize with this research project.
Teachers and students of Jiading No. 1 Middle School can often be seen in various aerospace competitions at all levels. In the past two years, they have won 17 national honors and 24 municipal honors. This practice-oriented teaching method has effectively improved students' scientific research literacy and laid a solid foundation for their future academic exploration and career development.
"Since the implementation of aviation-themed education, more and more students' enthusiasm for learning has been mobilized, their potential has been stimulated, their vision has become broader, and their beliefs have become firmer. Many students also choose to apply for the Strong Foundation Plan and aerospace-related majors, and are determined to engage in basic research, aviation and national defense."
