Reference News reported on August 19According to a recent report by Deutsche Presse-Agentur, according to the latest German research, the number of electric vehicles in the world continues to increase rapidly.
The Baden-Württemberg Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research recently released a report stating that by the end of 2023, there will be approximately 42 million electric vehicles in the world, an increase of approximately 50% from a year ago.
This figure includes pure electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles and extended-range electric vehicles.
According to the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg, China has 23.4 million electric vehicles, accounting for more than half of the world's electric vehicle stock.
In second place is the United States, although its electric vehicle ownership, at 4.8 million, is far behind China.
Germany ranked third with 2.3 million vehicles, ahead of France and the United Kingdom, which had 1.6 million and 1.5 million respectively.
China’s dominance is unlikely to change much in the short term. The growth in electric vehicle adoption in China is significantly stronger than in other major markets.
In 2023, the largest manufacturer of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids is the Chinese company BYD, with more than 3 million electric vehicles, Tesla with 1.8 million, and Volkswagen with 1 million, based on new registrations.
BMW was sixth with just under 570,000 units, while Mercedes-Benz was tenth with just over 400,000 units.
According to the cumulative new registration data, the two most common electric vehicles are from Tesla Motors: Model Y has nearly 2.5 million units and Model 3 has at least 2.3 million units. (Compiled by Hu Jing)
