In August this year, Shanghai issued and implemented "Several Measures on Enhancing the Driving Effect of the City's Convention and Exhibition Economy" (hereinafter referred to as "Several Measures"), which encouraged the introduction of new exhibition projects by providing "real money" incentive policies, aiming to fully build an "international convention and exhibition capital" and enhance the driving effect of Shanghai's convention and exhibition economy.

According to the "Several Measures", a maximum of 2 million yuan in financial support can be provided for newly introduced internationally renowned exhibition projects such as the top 100 world trade shows, exhibitions certified by the International Association of the Exhibition Industry, and projects held in Shanghai for the first time with an exhibition area of no less than 50,000 square meters.

Conventions and exhibitions are known as the "business card" of a city and are important windows and bridges connecting the world. Their development can not only showcase the image of a city, but also provide a strong platform support for the take-off of the industrial economy. As one of the most developed regions in China's convention and exhibition economy, the Yangtze River Delta region has different focuses in the development of the convention and exhibition economy, and is at the forefront of the country in terms of industrial activity and influence.

Shanghai focuses on building an international and high-end exhibition brand and promoting the development of exhibitions in the fields of finance, services and technological innovation. With its status as an international metropolis, Shanghai gathers global wisdom and enhances the global influence of Shanghai's exhibition brand by hosting high-end exhibitions such as the China International Import Expo and the Shanghai Summit of CEOs of the International Exhibition Industry. At the same time, Shanghai actively promotes the in-depth integration of exhibitions and technological innovation, and promotes the successful holding of a number of large-scale exhibitions with international influence and industry driving force, such as the China International Import Expo, the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, the China International Medical Equipment Expo, and the International Solar Photovoltaic and Smart Energy (Shanghai) Conference and Exhibition, which have become an important platform for displaying the latest technologies, products and industry trends, fully demonstrating its positioning as a global science and technology innovation center.

Relying on its strong manufacturing base and industrial chain advantages, Jiangsu focuses on developing specialized industrial exhibitions. Intelligent manufacturing, equipment manufacturing and other advantageous industrial exhibitions such as the World Internet of Things Expo and the China (Nanjing) International Software Products and Information Services Trade Fair not only serve local companies, but also attract industry participation from across the country and even the world. The scale and influence of the exhibitions are constantly increasing. At the same time, small and medium-sized exhibitions in Jiangsu are also booming, such as the food exhibition and tea expo at the Xinzhuang National Exhibition Center on the shore of Nanjing Xuanwu Lake, which have become an important fulcrum for promoting industrial transformation and upgrading.

Zhejiang Province has highlighted the development direction of digital exhibitions and industrial integration. Relying on the resource advantages of Internet companies such as Alibaba, Zhejiang has taken a leading position in the field of digital exhibitions in China, and has promoted the digital transformation of the exhibition industry through digital exhibitions such as the Yunqi Conference. In addition, Zhejiang Province has actively developed exhibitions related to e-commerce and cultural and creative industries, especially Yiwu City, which has held exhibitions such as the Yiwu International Commodities Fair and the Import Commodities Fair based on its world-renowned small commodity trade and e-commerce advantages, promoting global trade exchanges and cooperation, and also promoting the international development of local small and medium-sized enterprises, further enhancing Zhejiang's position in the global supply chain.

Anhui focuses on taking over the radiation effect of the other three provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Delta and actively developing new and distinctive exhibitions. As a late-developing region, Anhui has promoted the rapid development of the local economy through science and technology innovation exhibitions and industrial transfer exhibitions. Hefei has taken advantage of its advantages in the high-tech field to hold a series of intelligent manufacturing and high-tech exhibitions such as the 2023 Hefei International New Energy Vehicle Exhibition, the World Manufacturing Conference, and the International Chamber of Commerce Conference to showcase and promote the latest scientific and technological achievements. At the same time, relying on its rich agricultural and ecological resources, Anhui has developed agricultural products and green ecological exhibitions such as the Anhui International Tea Industry Expo and the Anhui Traditional Chinese Medicine Health and Elderly Care Summit Forum, which have promoted the development of green industries and demonstrated its unique ecological advantages in the exhibition economy.

Looking ahead, the Yangtze River Delta region will further strengthen regional coordination in the integrated development of the exhibition economy, relying on the complementary advantages of various provinces and cities, promote resource integration, policy coordination and brand co-building, and form a globally competitive exhibition economy circle. To achieve this goal, the following measures are particularly critical:

First, cross-regional cooperation and brand building need to be strengthened. Cities should establish resource sharing mechanisms to achieve exhibition resource sharing and corporate cooperation, reduce resource waste and improve efficiency. Jointly hold large-scale international and domestic exhibitions to attract more exhibitors and visitors. At the same time, the region should work together to formulate exhibition industry standards, promote the training and cooperation of exhibition talents, and work together to enhance the visibility and reputation of the exhibition industry in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Secondly, promote the digital transformation of the exhibition economy. With the rapid development of the digital economy, the Yangtze River Delta region should strengthen the training of digital exhibition talents, promote advanced technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), and enhance the global accessibility and interactivity of exhibitions. In addition, it is necessary to build and improve the exhibition industry information cloud platform to improve the industry's operational efficiency and information sharing.

Green exhibitions and sustainable development are also important directions for the future. The Yangtze River Delta region should promote the green transformation of exhibition halls and exhibition activities by formulating environmental protection policies to reduce energy consumption and waste generation. The government can establish a green certification mechanism to reward exhibitions that meet green standards and promote the development of the exhibition industry in a greener and more sustainable direction.

Through the above measures, the Yangtze River Delta region is expected to achieve further breakthroughs in the integration process of the convention and exhibition economy and build a convention and exhibition economic circle with global competitiveness.
