The 47th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Lyon, France. China has participated in this "WorldSkills Olympics" event for more than ten years, and its impact is not limited to the championship. On August 19, Guangdong held a WorldSkills Competition results transformation sharing meeting. Representatives from the WorldSkills National Training Base, colleges, scientific research institutions, and enterprises gave speeches on themes such as WorldSkills empowering talent development, empowering industrial development, and empowering scientific and technological innovation, and shared practical explorations on the transformation of WorldSkills results. Relevant persons in charge of provincial and municipal human resources and social security departments, as well as representatives from WorldSkills National Training Bases, colleges, scientific research institutions, and enterprises across the province, totaling more than 100 people attended the event.
Integrate WorldSkills standards into talent training
The World Skills Competition (hereinafter referred to as "World Skills") is the world's highest-ranking, largest-scale, and highest-level international vocational skills competition. However, the World Skills Competition is not only a contest of skills, but also a powerful engine for talent cultivation and skills development. The sharing session showcased a number of cases, such as technical school students "reversing" to become world champions and opening up a new life track with their skills, which vividly demonstrated the effectiveness of Guangdong in promoting the transformation of World Skills results in recent years.
"I believe that our technical schools should be the cradle of future great craftsmen." Ye Junfeng, secretary of the Party Committee of Guangdong Mechanical Technician College, introduced that in the past decade, the school has not only built a strong World Skills coaching team and trained a large number of World Skills champions and echelon players, but also explored a set of high-skilled talent training models. By opening World Skills experimental classes, the school has achieved the popularization of World Skills results and implemented a pilot plan to share with many enterprises and vocational colleges across the country to realize the goal of serving the country with skills.
Coincidentally, Guangzhou Industrial and Trade Technician College has transformed and applied the World Skills standards for projects such as refrigeration and air conditioning, CAD mechanical design, etc. to the talent training process of 10 related majors, promoting the development of national skill talent training standards and integrated curriculum specifications.
In recent years, Guangdong has built a multi-level competition "training ground" led by the World Skills Competition, led by the National Skills Competition, and mainly based on the provincial competition, and based on the vocational skills competitions of industry enterprises, colleges and universities, and cities. It has integrated the advanced standards of the World Skills Competition into the talent training process, promoted the transformation of competition standards into teaching standards, the transformation of competition training methods into teaching training methods, and the transformation of competition venues into training venues, and blazed a path of skill talent training and development with Guangdong characteristics. With the technical requirements of the World Skills Competition as a "barometer", batches of skilled talents have established themselves with skills and lit up their wonderful lives by learning skills. According to statistics, the total number of skilled talents in the province reached 20.19 million, including 7.22 million high-skilled talents.

High-tech skilled talents play a leading role in industrial transformation and upgrading
Skilled talents are the backbone of industrial optimization and upgrading, and the transformation of World Skills results has also brought benefits to enterprises and research institutes. In the cases shared on site, five skilled young people from Guangdong are engaged in the research and development of formic acid hydrogen fuel cells and other projects in the Peking University research team. Among them, the teaching Raman spectrometer also won the second prize of the Ministry of Education's teaching and scientific research results. These five skilled young people are all "skilled hands" who have come out of the World Skills training.
It is not an isolated case that skilled talents "take the lead" in the field of new quality productivity. In 2022, Jihua Laboratory cooperated with Foshan Technician College to open an "order class". At present, 19 technical school students have entered different R&D teams of Jihua Laboratory to participate in the R&D and implementation of high-end technology. "To do a good job in the R&D of high-end equipment, especially to ensure the smooth progress of prototype trial production, we must have a first-class domestic team of talents in precision machining and testing. Skilled talents have a lot to do in the process of high-end equipment R&D!" Hu Jinping, deputy director of the Human Resources Department of Jihua Laboratory, introduced on the spot that skilled talents have joined scientific research teams in different R&D directions in the field of high-end equipment, worked with top scientific research talents at home and abroad, and put what they have learned into the R&D and implementation of high-end equipment, which greatly improved the R&D efficiency and effectively promoted the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into actual productivity.
The guests at the conference believed that skilled talents trained in accordance with the WorldSkills standards have obvious advantages in their innovative capabilities in process design, tool development, product trial production, and proposing solutions based on actual work situations. This will help to adapt to the development of new quality productivity and promote scientific and technological innovation in cutting-edge fields such as smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence, big data, and new energy.
"With the vigorous rise of cutting-edge technology fields such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing, it has not only promoted technological innovation and integrated applications, but also spawned a series of emerging occupations. These emerging skilled talent groups have become a key force in supporting industrial upgrading and transformation." Zhou Jun, business development manager of Amazon Web Services China's industry cluster, believes that the government, schools, and enterprises need to work closely together to increase investment in the research and development of emerging technologies and talent training.
With first-class skills and good professional qualities, skilled talents are highly favored by industrial enterprises. Data shows that Guangdong technical schools send more than 170,000 graduates to all walks of life every year, and the employment rate of graduates reaches more than 98%, achieving a boom in both enrollment and employment.
Guide the development of skill talent training standards for 103 majors across the country
At the event, relevant officials from the Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security and the Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security presented the book "WorldSkills Guangzhou: Results Transformation" compiled by the WorldSkills China (Guangzhou) Research Center to representatives of the WorldSkills award-winning contestants, encouraging more young people to devote themselves to the skills industry and contribute to the realization of the dream of building a skilled nation.
As one of the important institutions for studying the transformation of World Skills results, China (Guangzhou) Research Center is one of the four major centers in China, along with Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing. "We have developed a set of technical paths to transform World Skills standards into skill talent training standards, and guided the development of national skill talent training standards for 103 majors in technical schools across the country." Zhang Lifang, director of China (Guangzhou) Research Center, introduced that the skill talent training standards for these majors have all integrated the World Skills standards. "The World Skills standards represent a high level, and we have designed a training path based on the growth laws of skilled talents."
