According to Russia's TASS news agency, on August 19 local time, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office announced that the Clooney Justice Foundation, a foundation project owned by Hollywood star George Clooney and his wife, was listed as an "undesirable organization" by Russia.

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office said in a statement released on the same day: "The activities of the American non-governmental organization 'Clooney Justice Foundation' are considered unwelcome... The organization has long been engaged in defamation activities against Russia in a Hollywood-style manner."

The statement accused the foundation of "actively supporting pseudo-patriots leaving Russia, as well as members of banned extremist and terrorist organizations," while "under the guise of humanitarianism" promoting initiatives for criminal prosecution of senior Russian officials and spreading negative comments about the Russian government's bills on foreign agents and non-governmental organizations.

According to relevant regulations, foreign non-governmental organizations listed on the "undesirable" list by the Russian government are not allowed to operate in Russia, open branches, disseminate information materials, or conduct financial and property transactions with financial institutions. Those who participate in the activities of these organizations may face a fine of less than 100,000 rubles (about 10,888 yuan) and up to 6 years in prison.
