Chinanews.com, August 19 (Xinhua) -- According to foreign media reports, on August 18, local time, the Ukrainian Air Force said that the Ukrainian army attacked another bridge in the Kursk region of Russia in an attempt to disrupt Russian combat operations and supply routes. Ukrainian President Zelensky said that evening that one of the main purposes of the Ukrainian attack on Kursk was to establish a buffer zone in Russia.
According to AFP, the Ukrainian attack appeared to target a bridge across the Seym River about 15 kilometers north of the Ukrainian border.
According to reports, a Ukrainian Air Force commander posted on the social media Telegram that day, "Another bridge was destroyed. The Air Force continues to deprive the enemy of its logistical capabilities through precision air strikes."
The commander released a video showing the explosion destroying the bridge and subsequently leaving a huge crack in the road.
It is not clear exactly when the attack took place.
According to the Kyiv Independent, Ukrainian President Zelensky delivered a video speech on the evening of the 18th, saying that the current priority of the Ukrainian army's overall defense operation is to weaken Russia's combat capabilities as much as possible and launch a maximum counterattack, including establishing a buffer zone on Russian territory through operations in the Kursk region.
It is reported that the Ukrainian army launched an attack on Russia's Kursk Oblast on August 6, followed by fierce conflict between the two sides in the state.
Ukraine previously announced that it destroyed a bridge over the Seim River in the Glushkovo region of Kursk Oblast on the evening of August 16. Russia said that the Kursk region was attacked by Western-made weapons for the first time, most likely the US HIMARS rocket launcher system.
A Russian military blogger said that after the two bridges were destroyed, "the Russian army's options for crossing the river in the area became very limited."
