Put down the "Rebellion of the Three Guards" and usher in the "Cheng Kang Prosperous Era"
The "Rebellion of the Three Supervisors" was a rebellion led by three rulers in the Shang Dynasty's capital area (near Anyang, Henan) in the early Western Zhou Dynasty.
After King Wu of Zhou destroyed the Shang Dynasty, he divided the Shang Dynasty into three parts and set up three supervisors to govern. The specific personnel of the three supervisors were: Duke Zhou's brother Guan Shu, his younger brother Cai Shu, and Huo Shu. The so-called "supervisor" was to supervise the remnants of the Shang Dynasty to prevent them from rebellion.
It is generally believed that the area to the north of the Shang capital was Bei, the area to the south of the Shang capital was Yong, and the area to the east of the Shang capital was Wei. After King Wu destroyed the Shang Dynasty, he died of illness soon after, and Duke Zhou became regent. At this time, Wu Geng, who wanted to restore the country, instigated the three supervisors to rebel, and the Zhou Dynasty faced a grim situation. Later, Duke Zhou went to the east to punish Wu Geng, killed Guan Shu and released Cai Shu, and demoted Huo Shu to a commoner, thus quelling the rebellion of the three supervisors.
Background of the rebellion: After the Zhou people gained power, they did not completely destroy the Shang Dynasty. Instead, they retained the Shang people's sacrifices according to the principle of "destroying a country but not ending sacrifices" at that time. King Wu of Zhou allowed King Zhou's son Wu Geng to inherit the throne of Shang and rule the former Shang territory.
King Wu of Zhou also arranged his brothers Guan Shu, Cai Shu and Huo Shu to garrison in the three states of Bei, Yong and Wei around the capital of Yin to monitor Wu Geng. They were known in history as the "Three Surveillances".
