According to Xinhua News Agency, Ukrainian Air Force Commander Nikolay Oleschuk said on the 18th that the Ukrainian army attacked another key bridge in Russia's Kursk Oblast, limiting the Russian army's logistical supply capabilities. On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry denied that Russia and Ukraine held indirect negotiations on stopping attacks on energy facilities.
Oleschuk wrote on the social media platform "Telegram" on the 18th: "In the direction of Kursk, another bridge was lost! The Ukrainian Air Force continues to launch precision air strikes to curb the enemy's logistical supply capabilities. This seriously affects the enemy's operations." Oleschuk also shared a video showing that smoke rose above the bridge after the explosion and part of the bridge was broken.
Oleschuk did not provide further details and could not confirm when the bridge was attacked. AFP reported that some Russian military bloggers shared several photos of damaged bridges, which seemed to show that the same bridge was attacked, with the date marked as the 17th.
The Ukrainian army said on the 15th that it destroyed a bridge in the town of Glushkovo in Kursk Oblast. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed on the 16th that a bridge over the Seym River in Kursk Oblast was attacked by the Ukrainian army and the bridge was completely destroyed.
Since the Ukrainian army raided Kursk Oblast on August 6, Ukraine said it has controlled more than 80 settlements and more than 1,150 square kilometers of land. Russian officials told AFP that more than 120,000 Russians have evacuated since August 6.
TASS reported, citing Apti Arauddinov, deputy director of the Russian Armed Forces' Main Military and Political Directorate, that a large number of Ukrainian military personnel were killed in the Kursk direction and the situation has been brought under control.
