According to the official WeChat account of the Jingzhou Intermediate People's Court, on the morning of August 19, 2024, the Jingzhou Intermediate People's Court of Hubei Province publicly pronounced the first-instance verdict on the case of Li Yuyi, former vice chairman of the Chinese Football Association, for taking bribes. The defendant Li Yuyi was sentenced to eleven years in prison for the crime of taking bribes and fined RMB 1 million. The property obtained by him from taking bribes was recovered according to law and turned over to the state treasury.

On March 29, 2024, the Intermediate People's Court of Jingzhou City, Hubei Province held a public trial of the case of bribery against Li Yuyi, former vice chairman of the Chinese Football Association.

The People's Procuratorate of Jingzhou City alleges that from 2004 to 2021, the defendant Li Yuyi used the convenience of his positions as deputy secretary of the Jinshan District Committee of Shanghai, district mayor, vice chairman of the Chinese Football Association, and chairman of the Chinese Super League Co., Ltd., or the convenience formed by his power and status, to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in matters such as football club league relegation and contracting engineering projects, and illegally accepted money from others totaling more than 12 million yuan. The procuratorate requested that Li Yuyi be held criminally responsible for the crime of accepting bribes.

During the trial, the procuratorate presented relevant evidence, the defendant Li Yuyi and his defense counsel conducted cross-examination, and the prosecution and defense fully expressed their opinions under the auspices of the court. Li Yuyi made a final statement and expressed his guilt and remorse in court.

At the end of the trial, the court announced a recess and the verdict will be announced at a later date.

More than 40 people including NPC deputies, CPPCC members, journalists and people from all walks of life attended the trial.

The case of Ma Chengquan, former director of the Executive Bureau of the Chinese Football Association Professional League Council and former chairman of the Chinese Super League Co., Ltd., for taking bribes and using his influence to accept bribes, was also heard in public by the Chongyang County People's Court of Hubei Province on the same day.
