CCTV News(News Broadcast): Today (August 18), the “Ten Major Achievements” of the second Qinghai-Tibet scientific expedition were announced in Lhasa.
The "Ten Major Advances" involve world-class original achievements such as the changes and impacts of the Asian Water Tower, the function and potential of carbon sinks, changes in ecosystems and biodiversity, human plateau adaptation and green development, and the plateau uplift effect. The results show that the total surface water storage of the Asian Water Tower currently exceeds 10 trillion cubic meters, which is about the total runoff of the Yellow River in 200 years. The scientific expedition revealed the laws of change and the overall trend of improvement of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau ecosystem in the past 15 years, and published more than 3,000 new species. For the first time, a multi-hazard database on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was established, new evidence of human activities and adaptation to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was found, and a green development path for the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was proposed.
Since the second Qinghai-Tibet scientific expedition was launched on August 19, 2017, more than 28,000 scientific researchers have been organized to carry out scientific expeditions covering the entire Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, leading the international frontier of Earth system science research on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
