Taipei, August 18 (China News Service) - A train No. 133 of the Taiwan Railway was involved in a collision in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung on the evening of the 18th. A man was suspected to have entered the railway on a bicycle and was hit and killed.
According to reports from Taiwan media including United News Network and TVBS News, the accident occurred at around 19:00 on the same day at the Chenggong Road level crossing in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung. The man who was hit died on the spot. The accident caused the Ziqiang Express train to be delayed for 30 to 40 minutes at Zuoying Station.
The Railway Police Department has sent personnel to investigate and the section of the railway has been closed. The police are still trying to figure out why the man entered the railway.
According to Central News Agency, the TRA No. 402 Taroko Express train was traveling between Hualien Dongli and Dongzhu at 9:35 on the 17th when it hit a rock, causing the auxiliary snow clearer in front of the train to tilt. The train was delayed for about 27 minutes before resuming normal traffic.
Taiwan Railways Corporation said on the 18th that the railway police found that a teenager placed stones on the track, causing the Taroko Express train to hit. The police have notified the teenager to appear in court, and the teenager admitted to the crime. The case will be sent to the juvenile court for handling.
The Taiwan Railways Corporation said that placing stones or foreign objects on the rails is illegal and endangers driving safety. If similar behavior is discovered, it will be brought to justice and will not be tolerated. (End)
