Phnom Penh, August 18 (Reporter Yang Qiang) On August 18, local time, the groundbreaking ceremony of the electric truck assembly plant of Elephant Automobile (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. was held in Pursat Province, Cambodia. The project is expected to invest 20 million US dollars and produce 10,000 units per year. The implementation of the Elephant Automobile Cambodia factory and its "100 stations and 1,000 piles" infrastructure plan will create more than 2,000 jobs for local residents.
This is the first foreign-funded electric truck assembly plant project since Cambodia introduced its new energy vehicle development policy. According to reports, the global factory that Elephant Motor plans to build in Cambodia covers an area of 10 hectares. The factory will focus on the assembly and production of electric trucks and is committed to promoting the development of the new energy vehicle industry in Cambodia and even Southeast Asia.
In addition, it also specifically proposed the "Hundred Stations and Thousands of Charging Piles" infrastructure development plan, striving to achieve full coverage of new energy vehicle basic charging facilities in major transportation networks and core cities in Cambodia within the next two years to meet the charging needs of local new energy commercial vehicles and promote the popularization and application of new energy commercial vehicles in Cambodia.
Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy Kolatana pointed out that the groundbreaking ceremony of the Elephant Motors Cambodia factory is an important milestone in the development of Cambodia's new energy vehicles. He hopes that Elephant Motors can drive the development of Cambodia's new energy vehicle industry and contribute to Cambodia's economic growth and environmental protection.
Earlier this year, the Cambodian government issued a policy to develop the electric vehicle industry. Senior executives from several Chinese auto companies, including BYD and Chery, have recently visited Cambodia and released information about investing and setting up factories in Cambodia. The authorities said they would help foreign investors supply their products to Southeast Asia and the vast global market through bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements. (End)
