In June 2023, the Letters and Visits Office of the Jiangxi Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision received a letter of complaint from the public, reporting that during Li Peixia's tenure as Party Secretary of Shangfang Township, Wannian County, there were problems such as false listing of funds, illegal accounting, and illegal intervention in projects. The Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision transferred the letter of complaint to the Wannian County Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision for handling in accordance with relevant regulations on the handling of letters and visits. In July 2023, the Wannian County Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision conducted a preliminary investigation into the above-mentioned problems reported by Li Peixia. In April 2024, in the process of carrying out a concentrated rectification of unhealthy practices and corruption among the masses, the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision sorted out letters and visits from the province and found that the problems reflected by Li Peixia in the letters and visits were relatively prominent. It was regarded as a provincial-level supervision case, and the Shangrao Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision was required to strengthen follow-up supervision. Under the supervision of the Shangrao Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, the Wannian County Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision further carried out verification work.

According to the verification, on May 26, the Wannian County Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, after approval by the Shangrao Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision and the Wannian County Party Committee, took detention measures against Li Peixia, and delivered the detention notice to Li Peixia's family within 24 hours. On June 17, the Shangrao Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced to the public that Li Peixia was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and was subject to disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Wannian County Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision. After filing a case against Li Peixia, the Shangrao Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision sent cadres to participate in the investigation and handling of the case throughout the process. On August 16, Li Peixia's case was closed. After investigation, Li Peixia violated the party's political discipline, the spirit of the Central Eight Regulations, organizational discipline, integrity discipline, mass discipline and life discipline, used her position to seek benefits for others in the contracting of engineering projects and the payment of engineering funds, and illegally accepted property, constituting a serious duty violation and suspected of bribery. After approval according to procedures, Li Peixia was expelled from the party and dismissed from public office, and her suspected criminal issues were transferred to the procuratorate for review and prosecution in accordance with the law.

During the period of detention, the Shangrao Municipal and Wannian County Commissions for Discipline Inspection and Supervision insisted on seeking truth from facts, handling the case in accordance with regulations, discipline and law, and safeguarding her legitimate rights and interests. Her physical and mental condition was normal. During the review and investigation process, Li Peixia admitted her mistakes and regretted them. She took the initiative to explain her violations of discipline and law to the organization and expressed regret for the impact of her behavior.

After investigation, it was found that Mao Qi had used his power to have an improper sexual relationship with Li Peixia, and Li Peixia violated the living discipline in order to adjust her position and get promoted. The Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision is currently investigating Mao Qi's suspected violations of discipline and law.
